The locality is about 20 kilometres (12 mi) south-west of the town of Kingston. The 2016 census recorded a population of 319 for the state suburb of Oyster Cove. Part of Putalina, Oyster Cove is an Indigenous Protected Area due to its history as a colonial holding facility for Aboriginal Tasmanians.
